Readings Response
I suppose the purpose of this week's readings are to expose us to some cool politically-charged art, projects and tools that can inspire us when creating our own project. I love it! I am getting inspired and broadening my perspectives is a great exercise. I am inexperienced creating art that's purpose is to evoke societal change rather than evoking an emotion. All art is political of course, but 'political art' (for lack of a better term) seems to use emotion and perspective shifts as a tool for enacting change.
The line is blurred between art, technology and tool when it comes to these readings. I've been on the fringes of education but I could behind creating something that is educational, emotional and powerful. It also brings up a question when creating webapps or machine learning programs, is it okay to use unethical services for an ethical purpose? Such as AWS or water-hungry AI training. Or using AI to detect AI? Where should the line be drawn? Is it a simple calculation of benefit vs. cost?
A lot of them seem to be either a map-based tool or resource list, which can be very helpful and interesting. But it's not particularly exciting and I would like to try and see what could be made outside of that. I guess it depends on the problem and solution we come up with!
